About the Author

John Kokulis has spent most of his life learning about and enjoying boating on other people’s boats.
His love for boating started as child, learning the basics of boating on his Dad’s old Chris Craft cabin cruiser (to be truthful, he more enjoyed the beach and the water, than he did the boat).

As time passed, his interest in boating grew as he bought a sunfish and began sailing on the lakes of New Hampshire. Once out of college, he started crewing on other people’s sailboats and began to appreciate ocean sailing and navigation. As years passed, this shameless habit continued as he spent time sailing the waters off the California coast on his father-in-law’s boat and the waters off of the Maine coast on his Uncle’s boat.

In early 2003, and much to the relief of friends and relatives, Kokulis finally made an honest man out of himself and bought his own boat. He, his wife and their two children keep their boat in Kittery, Maine.

SHIP's LOG

Author’s Note: I first got the idea for this book about five years ago after discovering my Dad’s ship log from the late 1960s. It was a GREAT read. What made it so special was not the recorded wind speed of the day, or the course setting and point destination, but rather his comments on the characters and relatives that used to join him for a ride, the frustrations he had getting his wife and three children ready and organized for a day trip, his dreams and plans for his boat, and his humorous descriptions of cocktail “hour.”

It is in this spirit that I offer you this book. Enjoy!

This SHIP’s LOG was put together for boaters who want the most from their ship’s record.

These boaters want the ability to log critical information such as maintenance repairs performed on their vessel, their equipment inventory, their sail inventory, etc.

At the same time, they want to log those special, humorous moments that make boating special (who was on-board, where we docked, where we ate, and of course, what we drank).

To that end, this log offers the following:

  • Over 50 pages for Daily Log entries.
  • Maintenance Log
  • Fuel Log
  • Equipment Log
  • Sail Inventory
  • Radio/VHF Log

It also allows for entries of extremely important information:

  • Wine Log
  • “Watering-Hole” Log
  • Marina Log
  • Fish Log
  • 40 extra pages for notes and comments
